Love Actually: Day 7

Love Actually: Day 7

Congratulations! You are right back on the day you started. A full week of deeper commitment to God, more intentional time in His Word, service to others. I think you are beginning to Love Actually. And so it is Wednesday again. Hump Day! Remember that really bad commercial about the camel walking through the office saying, “Do you know what day it is? HUMP DAY!” I don’t even remember what the commercial was about, but I sure remember the camel. And I remember the phrase “hump day.”

Hump Day is the middle of the workweek. Halfway over. As close to the end as to the beginning. The HUMP on the center of the week. If we can just get through this day, we have it made from here. Everything rises and falls on hump day.

Now, in case you are thinking we are halfway through our 40 days, your math skills are as bad as mine. We are just getting started. But we are at a hump of sorts. Jesus gives us a word today and everything rises and falls on it. If we do this, the rest of the spiritual adventure stuff is a piece of cake. If we don’t do this, well, it is just grit your teeth, clench your fist and grind it out from now to Easter. Are you ready for the word? John 15:12, “This is my commandment; Love each other in the same way that I have loved you.”

Wow! That’s a defining statement. That’s a high hill to climb. That’s a hump to get past. But it pretty much establishes the center point for everything we do. Do you know what day it is? It’s the day to love one another. See you on the other side of that.

Remember what we are doing.

  1. time in the Word. Every day this week we read Psalm 25. Read Proverbs 24 today. Ask God to reveal some word of wisdom just for you today. And, read John 15:12-27 today.
  2. time in His Presence. Spend 12 minutes today in prayer. Use the Lord’s Prayer as an outline. 6 parts, 2 minutes each, 12 minutes. We will expand on that in next week.
  3. time FOR His people. Do something small, and perhaps anonymous, for one person today. Send an encouraging text, pay for a cup of coffee, hold open a door. I’m going to mention that in a minute.
  4. Start thinking about a small project you could do for your church over the next 6 weeks. God loves His Church. And a small project for the environment, like pick up trash at the local park. God loves His creation. We have time to think about that.

Just for fun, listen to the podcast, “What Difference Does That Make?” It drops today. Tammy Dickenson is my guest. If she doesn’t fire you up for Jesus, your wood is wet. 🙂   https://what-difference-does-that-make-with-dr-mike-courtney.simplecast.com/episodes/surrender-vs-struggle-guest-tammy-dickenson-xTQ_t8qM

I love what we are doing here. I love you.

One Response to Love Actually: Day 7

  1. #iplantolivealifeoflove has been my hashtag as a signature to any FB or Instagram post … because it is a choice, every day, birthed by the change God’s Spirit created within me, but “chosen” to live “outward” so that others will know my love for them, and the Love God has used to change my life…and can use to change theirs!
