During Holy Week we often look at spiritual discipline and consider things we can do to deepen our walk and increase our faith. The idea of self-reflection, self-examination is often uncomfortable and certainly underused. But this week is a wonderful time to look inward, allow the Holy Spirit to guide us, and determine the next steps God has for us. Here are some good reasons to do a healthy spiritual self-examination and some questions you might ask.

2 Corinthians 13:5 tells us to “examine ourselves.” Self-reflection is uncomfortable because of what we have to confront and how we want to control it. True humility keeps us from the twin dangers of self-absorption and self-condemnation.

  • Self-reflection is the key to KNOWING yourself.   Romans 12:3
  • Self-reflection leads to less inner CONFLICT.  Matthew 5:37
  • Self-reflection leaves little time for COMPARING yourself to others!    Philippians 3:10-11
  • Self-reflection is NOT NEGATIVE self-talk.      I Corinthians 15:10
  • Don’t listen to the voices in your HEAD, but the voice in your HEART.  John 16:13
  • Respond to your reflection IN WRITING.   1 Michael 1:1

Some SELF-REFLECTION suggestions:

What do you do with your time?

What do you do to serve others?

When you pray, what do you pray about?

What personal sacrifices do you make to serve the Lord?

What do your spending habits reveal about you? What does your lifestyle reveal about your priorities?

We live by the GRACE of God, nothing more and nothing less. But our response to GRACE is a moral imperative to OBEDIENCE in attitude and action, nothing more and nothing less.

And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, ‘It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers’” (Matthew 21:12-13).

ALL IN: Day 9

ALL IN: Day 9

The walk with Jesus is a walk of discipline. That is why we are called disciples. That is why following Him is called discipleship. But discipline is not gritting your teeth and doing what you do not want to do. Discipline is having a heart open to being led by God. It is having a… Continue Reading
